INFLIGHT 200 UPDATE (Cont.): The Pre-Order Dilemma

DILEMMA

A. Should we post models up for Pre-Order when we know that they will be produced?

Or

B. Should we wait until we have a very firm delivery date of the models?

This is the dilemma that we face with Inflight200.

In early 2008, Inflight200 changed its distribution. As a result of this change, all retailers are now required to provide a very firm order commitment to Inflight200 3-4 months in advance.

When the change occurred, Collectablejets had decided to wait to post pre-orders until we knew the models were 30 days away from delivery to Collectablejets.

The issue we found with this methodology was that customers would get very anxious and frustrated feeling they would miss out on a release.

After a few months of this method, Collectablejets changed our policy to post Inflight200 models up for pre-order as soon as we know that they will be produced. This is the same policy we have in effect for most of the military models (Century Wings, Hobby Master, Corgi).

The downside to this method is that you may end up waiting 3-5 months from the time you order you Inflight200s to get them. Adding to the frustration is that the European retailers seem to be getting their deliveries 2-3 weeks before the US retailers.

It is certainly not a perfect plan and we understand the frustration that occurs when you have to wait 3-5 months for a much anticipated model.

At present we plane to stick with method "B", but are open to any suggestions you might have.

We have made a number of enhancements:

1. When we post new items, the picture size has been increased to 500 pixels. We have retroactively increased the size on already posted items. This will be a longer term and ongoing effort.
2. We continue to add pictures where they are missing. With some brands (JC Wings, Phoenix) the pictures are often not available until we receive the items, but whenever possible we attempt to have pictures with the models when they are placed up for pre-order.
3. With our new website software, if we are low on a product you will see a "Low Qty" alert on the product. If we are out of the product, it will dissapear from the site. As always feel free to contact us if you are looking for a particular items. We may be able to locate it for you.
   
4. We have segmented our New Release sections. The main "New Release" section contains all new "Pre-Order" models, but you can now also search by these segments:

Our goal is to make the site the easiest to use. The easiest to find new products, to check prices, to check avialability and to easily place your order.
